why i started blacktechgirl?

i'll be honest. starting a blog wasn't necessarily something i dreamed about or on my bucket list of things to do. however, i felt the importance to begin sharing my own personal experiences, knowledge, and message to further push the narrative of a black woman in the technology industry. an industry that continues to evolve through automation and innovation, but remains to be marginalized for black and brown people. the numbers just aren't there.

i started my journey in tech over 12 years ago after ending my teaching career. at 22, i moved to atlanta to pursue a career i knew nothing about. online schooling hadn't evolved enough to teach me what application development or regression testing was, so i learned online and (honestly) on the job. of course, it wasn't easy and required you to stay current with the technology trends if you were going to be successful. for years, my co-workers assumed i had a degree in engineering or computer science because of how i articulated a solution to a client's problem. this is when i learned, you do not need a tech background to land a job in tech.

to my readers, i hope my blog helps educate you on a few things:

i. how to get into tech or (steam) careers

ii. stay on top of what's happening in tech and how it may impact you

iii. share my personal experiences that i hope might help someone

vi. highlight women of color in technology

what else would you like to hear about?
