thinking about changing careers? let's talk tech! even if you're non-techie, there's still a place for you in one of the fastest growing careers in the world: information technology.
let's face it. the advancement of technology has changed the way we live and interact with one another. from sending your spouse an e-card to controlling your lights at home from your mobile device, technology continues to evolve. the demand to fill IT-related job reqs has increased and companies are offering incentives like signing bonuses and stock to get candidates onboard quickly.
here's my top 5 reasons why you should switch your career to information technology:
innovation / you're always in the know. by staying affluent in the tech world, you will be exposed to the latest trends and methodologies. cloud computing, artificial intelligence (ai), machine learning, and IoT are examples of newer technologies many companies are adopting.
variety / the saying, "you don't have to be a rocket scientist" applies in IT too because not all tech jobs are technical. yes, there are plenty of jobs that require certain skills, training, and certifications, but there are some areas of tech that don't, like sales or analysts. even if you desire to learn basic to advanced skills, cost-effective online courses like LinkedIn Learning or Coursera are helpful. YouTube has good (free) content too.
high demand / according to the bureau of labor statistics, tech jobs are projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average of all occupations. not to mention, the tech jobless rate is far below the nation's average.
lucrative salary / in most cases, high demand jobs result in pretty good pay. technology is no different. salaries can range between $38k to $100k+ depending on job function. in 2016, the median wage for a tech job was $86,320.
gratification / let's be honest -- tech culture is fun. often times, you're a part of a new campaign or product launch your company is pitching where your contributions help make a difference. so, why not be a part of an industry that is fulfilling?
what are you waiting for?
